Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty can be combined with BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles or crow’s feet around the eyes. Eyelid surgery is also often combined with laser skin rejuvenation with the CO2 laser or fractional CO2 laser to smooth wrinkles, lighten dark circles and achieve skin tightening.
The procedure is performed in the office with local anesthesia and lasts 45-90 minutes. Incisions are made using the CO2 laser along the crease of the upper eyelids. The laser seals blood vessels as it cuts them; therefore there is less swelling, bruising or bleeding than with conventional eyelid surgery. Lower eyelid surgery is most often done from inside the eyelid so no sutures are needed and there are no visible scars.
The incisions are closed using tiny sutures, which are removed after 6 or 7 days. Most people return to work in 1 week. The effects of blepharoplasty can last for a long time and can be permanent.
