BLU-U Light Photodynamic Therapy
Simple, quick, safe and painless, BLU-U Light Photodynamic Therapy offers an attractive alternative to medications and antibiotics for young men and women with moderate acne. The BLU-U Light device shines gentle waves of narrow-band blue light on the skin, killing the bacteria that cause acne breakouts. BLU-U light treatments take only 15 minutes once or twice a week, while patients sit comfortably beneath the light with a special pair of glasses to protect their eyes. Within a few weeks, BLU-U light can control or temporarily clear up acne breakouts.
SmoothbeamTM Laser for Acne
The Smoothbeam laser is an advanced diode laser that treats acne by targeting its cause, the oil-producing sebaceous glands. The laser energy delivered during this treatment heats the sebaceous glands and changes their structure and function, preventing them from producing excessive amounts of oil. The laser beams target the sebaceous glands while leaving the surrounding tissue intact.
Most patients can achieve successful results from this procedure after four to five treatment sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Each treatment session typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. It is normal for patients to experience redness and the sensation of mild sunburn for several hours after treatment; however, you will be able to resume your regular activities immediately after each treatment session.
Photodynamic Therapy for Acne
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses a topical photo sensitizer called Levulan along with a light energy source such as pulsed dye laser and blue light to injure and shrink overactive oil glands, reduce cysts and knots and decrease inflammation seen in acne. The Levulan is applied to the skin and incubated for a certain amount of time before it is exposed to light energy to activate the medication and destroy the targeted cells.
Most people see successful results from PDT after three to four treatment sessions that are spaced three to four weeks apart. This procedure can be combined with other treatments, such as chemical peels and medical treatments to achieve optimal results in acne clearance.
